单词 adjustage
释义

adjustagen.

Brit. /əˈdʒʌstɪdʒ/, U.S. /əˈdʒəstɪdʒ/
Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: ajutage n.; adjust v.2, -age suffix.
Etymology: Originally (in sense 1) an alteration of ajutage n. (see discussion at that entry) after adjust v.2 In later use (in sense 2) < adjust v.2 + -age suffix; compare French ajustage (1350 in Middle French as adjustage in this sense, originally with reference to standardization of measurements and money; see further ajutage n.). With sense 2 compare earlier adjustment n.
