Etymology: < sea n. + king n. In sense 1 ultimately after early Scandinavian (compare Old Icelandic sækonungr, which Danish søkonge (18th cent.) calques). Compare Old English sǣcyning king powerful on the sea.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈsea-king.
