1. Any of various skin diseases of mammals and birds caused by ectoparasitic mites, usually characterized by intense itching, inflammation, and hair loss. Also with distinguishing word, indicating a particular manifestation of the disease, as red mange, scaly mange, scabby mange, or the causative mite, as demodectic mange, psoroptic mange, sarcoptic mange.In humans, the skin disease caused by mite infestation is usually called scabies.
