释义 | aboman. Now rare. Any of various very large constricting snakes of tropical America (see note). Also †aboma-snake.Sometimes identified with the rainbow boa, Epicrates cenchria (e.g. in the Penny Cycl. (1836), cited by N.E.D.), or the boa constrictor, Boa constrictor, but the name has been applied to various species, and Stedman's description would better fit the green anaconda, Eunectes murinus. Surinam I. vii. 175 It is called..Boa in the British Encyclopœdia [sic], to which publication I refer the reader for a perfect account, and an excellent engraving, of this wonderful creature, which in the colony of Surinam is called Aboma.] 1796 J.
