Etymology: < German Saturnismus (1847 or earlier) < post-classical Latin saturnus lead (see Saturn n.) + German -ismus -ism suffix.Compare scientific Latin saturnismus (1850 or earlier), French saturnisme (1878).
Medicine. Now rare.
The acute or chronic toxic condition resulting from the ingestion or inhalation of lead; lead poisoning. Also called plumbism.
