Origin: A borrowing from German, combined with an English element. Etymons: German Acrylsäure , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < acryl- (in German Acrylsäure acrylic acid (J. Redtenbacher 1843, in Ann. der Chem. u. Pharm. 47 118) < acr- (in Acrolein acrolein n.) + -yl -yl suffix + Säure acid) + -ic suffix. Compare acrylate n., and later acryl n.
