Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Récamier.
Etymology: < the name of Jeanne Françoise Julie Adélaïde Bernard Récamier (1777–1849), French hostess, who was portrayed reclining on a backless couch in a famous painting of 1800 by Jacques-Louis David. O.E.D. Suppl. (1982) also gives the non-naturalized pronunciation (rekamye) /rekamje/.
