Of, relating to, or characteristic of the order Hippuritoida (or Rudistes) of extinct bivalve molluscs having elongate shells, found in marine deposits of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. rare before 20th cent.Cretaceous forms are notable for their asymmetric shells, with a flattened lid above a conical lower valve.
