Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: room n.1, -ette suffix.
Etymology: < room n.1 + -ette suffix. Compare earlier couchette n.The roomette car was developed by the Pullman Company (compare Pullman n.) and first built in 1937.
Originally North American.
1. A private single compartment in a railway sleeping car. Also attributive.
