单词 knar
释义

knarn.

Brit. /nɑː/, U.S. /nɑr/
Forms: Middle English knarre, 1600s, 1800s knare, 1800s knar, knaur; Middle English, 1600s gnarre1800s gnar(r, 1800s– gnaur.
Etymology: Middle English knarre = Low German knarre(n , Dutch knar stump (of an old tree), knot, knob. Compare knur n.The history in English is obscure. From 14th to 19th centuries there are apparently no genuine examples of its use, Dryden's knare (copied by later writers) being based on knarie , knarry adj. in Chaucer. The spelling with gn-, usual in recent glossaries, may be partly due to gnarled.
