rosakern.Origin: Apparently a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: resalgar n. Etymology: Apparently a variant of resalgar n., perhaps influenced by rose n.1 on account of the red colour of the mineral's crystals. Compare Portuguese rosalgar (1679). N.E.D. (1909) gives stress on the second syllable of rosaker and rosalgar; some 19th cent. dictionaries also give this stress for the latter.
