Etymology: < German Robinsonade ( J. G. Schnabel Die Insel Felsenburg (1731), Preface) < the name of Robinson Crusoe (see Robinson Crusoe n.) + -ade -ade suffix.In the plural form Robinsonaden after the German plural form. O.E.D. Suppl. (1982) also gives the partly naturalized pronunciation (rǫ:binsənādə) /ˌrɒbɪnsəˈnɑːdə/.
A novel with a subject similar to that of Robinson Crusoe; a story about being marooned on a desert island or some similarly inhospitable place.
