Etymology: < German Reticulin (M. Siegfried 1892, in Berichte über die Verhandl. der Königlich Sächsischen Gesellsch. der Wissensch. zu Leipzig 44 306, now Retikulin ) < reticul- (in reticulirt having a net-like pattern, surface, etc., reticulated (mid 19th cent. or earlier; now retikuliert ) < classical Latin reticulum small net (see reticulum n.) + German -iert , suffix forming adjectives) + -in -in suffix¹.

Biochemistry and Histology.

The protein of which reticular fibres are composed (now recognized to be a type of collagen).
