Origin: Probably a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin rēmig- , rēmex , -cle suffix.
Etymology: Probably < classical Latin rēmig-, rēmex remex n. + -cle suffix. Compare post-classical Latin remiculus humble rower (16th cent.).
Ornithology.
A small outermost wing feather in some birds, attached to the second phalanx of the second digit. Cf. remex n. 2.Usually regarded as a vestigial primary feather but typically excluded from the primary count.
