Etymology: < the names of W. James (1840–1900) and C. G. Lange (1834–1900).
Psychology.
Used attributively to designate a theory propounded by James and Lange separately that the response to an emotional stimulus is, in the first place, an organic reaction rather than a mental awareness of the emotion.
