a. The regulation of aspects of life (diet, exercise, etc.) which have an influence on a person's health (frequently without article). Also: a mode of treatment; (now more commonly): a particular course of diet, exercise, medication, etc., prescribed or adopted for the restoration or preservation of health. Cf. regime n. 1, regiment n. 5.Regimen rather than regime is now the usual word in the United States and in Medicine; in British English regime is more usual.In quot. a1656 in figurative context as part of an extended metaphor.
