Etymology: < relieve v. + -able suffix. Compare French relevable (end of the 14th cent. in Middle French in sense ‘that needs relief’; the sense ‘that may be relieved’ is apparently not paralleled in French until much later (1934)). Compare earlier unrelievable adj.
