单词 qwerty
释义

QWERTYadj.n.

Brit. /ˈkwəːti/, U.S. /ˈkwərdi/
Forms: 1900s– QWERTY, 1900s– Qwerty, 1900s– qwerty.
Origin: Formed within English, as an acronym.
Etymology: < the first six letters on the top row of letter keys on a standard English-language typewriter keyboard, Q W E R T Y. Compare earlier qwertyuiop n.A typewriter with this design of keyboard was patented by Christopher L. Sholes, U.S. newspaper editor, in 1878 ( U.S. Patent 207,559). The arrangement of the keys is illustrated in the patent, but is not claimed in it. Sholes and others had invented a typewriter in 1867 ( U.S. Patent 79,265), and it was found that when typing at speed the keys often jammed. It was suggested that this could be avoided if the keys were repositioned so that those which were often struck successively were separated on the keyboard. This led to the design of keyboard in Sholes' 1878 patent. Early instances of the use of this string of letters include some (as quot. 1897) where it represents nonsense, and others where it appears to be a typist's or editor's mistake (apparently intended as a placeholder for material yet to be supplied) that has accidentally got into print:1897 Broad Ax (Salt Lake City, Utah) 20 Nov. 3/2 Reed sat down to the typewriter and gave to Bourke the following interesting opinion... —x—qwerty sxbbbbmnhtg?!!* .**3z77-7-11.1924 Iowa City Press-Citizen 2 Sept. 4/4 [At the end of a news item.] In the event the prisoner was released on bail.
