Etymology: Cognate with Old Saxon quidi utterance, speech, words, Old High German quiti utterance, statement, testimony, Old Icelandic kviðr statement, verdict, and (in different stem-class) kviða poem < the Germanic base of queath v.In Old English a strong masculine; however, a rare weak masculine by-form is also attested (compare the Northumbrian plural form cuido), which survived into early Middle English.
