Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by clipping or shortening. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Quicunque vult n.; Latin Quicunque vult.
Etymology: Short for either Quicunque vult n. or its etymon post-classical Latin Quicunque vult.With quot. 1832 compare post-classical Latin Castrovol super psalm. quicumque in a bookseller's catalogue (1556, referring to the work title Tractatus super psalmum: ‘Quicumque vult’ nominatum by Petrus de Castrovol (second half of the 15th cent.)), and also English the Psalm Quicunque vult (1679 or earlier; compare Quicunque vult n.).
