Etymology: < Anglo-Norman prodicion, prodicioun and Anglo-Norman and Middle French prodition (French prodition ) treachery, betrayal (13th or 14th cent. in Anglo-Norman) and its etymon classical Latin prōditiōn-, prōditiō treacherous abandonment, betrayal < prōdit- , past participial stem of prōdere to betray ( < prō- pro- prefix1 + dare to give: see datum n.) + -iō -ion suffix1.
