Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; probably partly modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: procession n., -ally suffix; processional adj., -ly suffix2.
Etymology: In early use < procession n. + -ally suffix, probably partly after post-classical Latin processionaliter, adverb (6th cent.; frequently c1172–1461 in British sources). In later use perhaps independently < processional adj. + -ly suffix2. Compare Middle French pourcessionnellement (end of the 15th cent.; French processionnellement).
