Etymology: < German -edrie (1825 or earlier in Homoedrie , Homiedrie , and a number of other formations) < Hellenistic Greek -εδρος (see -hedron comb. form) + German -ie -y suffix³. Compare -hedrism comb. form.Found in a small number of formations from the 19th cent., apparently earliest in hemihedry n. at hemihedron n. Derivatives and tetartohedry n. at tetarto- comb. form 1.
