单词 potteler
释义

pottelern.adj.

Forms: Middle English poteler, Middle English poteller, Middle English potiler, Middle English potiller, Middle English potler, Middle English–1500s potteler.
Origin: Apparently a borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin potellare.
Etymology: Apparently < post-classical Latin potellare pottle pot (although this is first attested slightly later: 1405 in a British source; < potellus (see pottle n.1) + classical Latin -āre -ar suffix1), with the ending remodelled after either -er suffix2 or -er suffix1.Apparently attested earlier as a surname (Joceus le Poteler (1265)), unless this reflects an (otherwise unattested) Anglo-Norman parallel. It is also possible that quots. 1386 at sense A., 1386 at sense B., and 1393 at sense B. could show an Anglo-Norman rather than a Middle English word.
Obsolete.
