Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pontificalibus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin pontificalibus, ablative of pontificalia (see pontificalia n.), in the phrase in pontificalibus (see in pontificalibus adv.). Compare pontificalia n.
colloquial. Now rare.
