Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements. Etymons: poly- comb. form, Greek τέλος , -ic suffix.

Etymology: < poly- comb. form + ancient Greek τέλος end, completion (see telos n.) + -ic suffix (compare telic adj.). In sense 3 after German monotel (in W. Troll Infloreszenzen (1964) I. 149). With senses 2 and 3 compare monotelic adj.
