Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French sayon.
Etymology: < French sayon (1679; earlier in Middle French, denoting a long-sleeved garment (15th cent.)) < saie say n.1 + -on (see -oon suffix).
Now historical and rare.
A sleeveless jacket or cassock made of rough fabric or skin, worn by shepherds, rural labourers, and others. Also occasionally: = sagum n.
