Any of several climbing or trailing North American shrubs of the genus Rhus (family Anacardiaceae), which contain a toxic resin and commonly cause severe dermatitis when touched; esp. R. radicans, which has trifoliate leaves, greenish flowers, and white berries. Also figurative.
