Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek πώγων , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek πώγων beard (see pogonology n.) + -ic suffix.R. G. Mayne (see quot. 1858) gives also a Latin form pogonicus.
