Compare Catalan plomall (c1415), Old Occitan plumail (1397), Old Occitan, Occitan plumalh (15th cent.; also in Occitan as plumau, ploumau, plumal, ploumal). Compare also post-classical Latin plumalis feathered (6th cent. or earlier), feather-bed or pillow (14th cent. in British sources; also as plumale).
