Etymology: Origin uncertain; perhaps either < Hellenistic Greek πλῆξις stroke, percussion (see pleximeter n.) + glass n.1, or < post-classical Latin plexus (see plexus n.) + -i- connective + glass n.1 In form Plexiglas probably after German Glas (see quots. 1935, 19361 at sense A.).
