Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: plaudit v., -ory suffix2; Latin plaudere , plaudit- , -ory suffix2.
Etymology: Either irregularly < plaudit v. + -ory suffix2, or irregularly < classical Latin plaudere plaud v. (plaudit- being erroneously taken as past participial stem) + -ory suffix2; perhaps by association with auditory adj.
Applausive; laudatory, expressive of approval.
