Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: platy- comb. form, Greek μηρός , -ism suffix.
Etymology: < platy- comb. form + ancient Greek μηρός thigh, thigh bone (see merus n.) + -ism suffix, perhaps after French platymérisme (1897). Compare slightly earlier platymeria n., platymery n., platymeric adj.
Physical Anthropology. Now rare.
