Etymology: < plani- comb. form + -form comb. form2, after French planiforme (1732 in the passage translated in quot. 1733); compare -iform comb. form. N.E.D.(1907) s.v. plani- gives only the pronunciation (plēinifǭɹm) /ˈpleɪnɪfɔːm/.
Having a flat or flattened shape; (Anatomy, of a joint) arthrodial. Also figurative.
