Etymology: < either pin n.3 (although this is apparently first attested slightly later) or perhaps pin v.2 + horse n.
English regional. Now rare.
The middle horse in a team of three draught horses, or the third horse in a team of four, harnessed one behind the other.

1962 A. Jobson Window in Suffolk v. 87 The horse-teams usually consisted of the ‘forhust’ (fore-horse), ‘lash-hoss’, ‘pin-hoss’, and ‘shaft-hoss’ or ‘filla’, sometimes referred to as a ‘thiller’.
