1858 R. G. Mayne Expos. Lexicon Med. Sci. (1860) Phyllocladium,..a term proposed by Bischoff for the Phyllodium, produced by a branch enlarged and flattened in the form of a leaf.
1883 Athenæum 3 Mar. 283/3 There is a curious Exocarpus with phyllocladia.
1938 Ann. Missouri Bot. Garden 25 738 In mature specimens..a cortex is present only around the phyllocladia and cephalodia..which occur in scattered spots.
1959 H. J. Lam in W. B. Turrill Vistas in Bot. 55 Neumayer thinks that in some cases stamens and carpels are phyllocladia borne in the axils of bracts (perianths).
1987 Biotropica 19 297 Diazotrophic, free-living Scytonema (Cyanophyra) lived as a microepiphyte on the lower phyllocladia.
