Etymology: < Russian pirožok (also transliterated pirozhok ), literally ‘little pirog’ < pirog pirog n. + -ok, diminutive suffix. Compare French pirojki, plural (1900 or earlier).In plural forms in -ki after the Russian plural form pirožki.
In Russian and Eastern European cookery: a small savoury pastry or pasty, usually filled with meat, vegetables, etc. Chiefly in plural (also with singular agreement). Cf. pirog n.
