单词 phellandrene
释义

phellandrenen.

Brit. /fɛˈlandriːn/, /fᵻˈlandriːn/, U.S. /fəˈlændrin/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on an Italian lexical item. Etymons: Latin Phellandrium , -ene comb. form.
Etymology: < phellandr- (in scientific Latin Phellandrium, former genus name (Linnaeus Systema Naturæ (1735)) of a water dropwort ( P. aquaticum; now called Oenanthe aquatica), from the seeds of which one of the compounds was first isolated; < classical Latin phellandrion (in Pliny), of uncertain origin; perhaps < Greek) + -ene comb. form, after Italian fellantrene (L. Pesci 1883, in Gazz. chim. italiana 13 846).The following apparently shows an earlier naturalization of the Italian word:1884 Jrnl. Chem. Soc. 46 331 Phellandrium Aquaticum..—This plant yields an essential oil, about 80 per cent of which consists of a terpene (Phellanthrene) boiling at 103–104°.
Chemistry.
Each of two isomeric cyclic terpenes having the formula C10H16 (more fully α-phellandrene and β-phellandrene), which are fragrant liquids found in the essential oils of many plants and used in perfumery.
