A pharmacist; spec. one who has passed the higher examination of the Pharmaceutical Society. Now also: a scientist who works in a laboratory developing medicinal drugs.The 1868 Pharmacy Act instituted two levels of pharmacist, the higher of which was that of pharmaceutical chemist. As a result of the Pharmacy Act of 1953 the lower category of chemist and druggist (see chemist and druggist n.) was abolished and the title of pharmaceutical chemist was applied to all.
