Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements. Etymons: philo- comb. form, Greek ὀρνιθ- , ὄρνις , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < philo- comb. form + ancient Greek ὀρνιθ-, ὄρνις bird (see ornitho- comb. form) + -ic suffix. Compare Hellenistic Greek ϕίλορνις bird-loving.
