Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from French. Etymons: Latin perforant-, perforāns; French perforant.
Etymology: Either < classical Latin perforant-, perforāns, present participle of perforāre perforate v., or < French perforant (1752), use as adjective of present participle of perforer perforate v. Compare Italian perforante (a1704). Compare earlier perforating adj.
Chiefly Anatomy.
Perforating; spec. (Anatomy) designating blood vessels that perforate other structures.
