Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: epi- prefix, colic adj.
Etymology: < epi- prefix + colic adj. In sense 1 after post-classical Latin epicolicus ( F. Glisson Tractatus de ventriculo et intestinis (1677) 8).
Anatomy.
1. Designating the left and right lateral regions of the abdomen, which are located on either side of the umbilical region and overlie parts of the colon. Chiefly in epicolic region. Obsolete.
