Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: pepper v., -ed suffix1.
Etymology: < pepper v. + -ed suffix1.It is unclear whether the Old English form gepiporod (one isolated attestation: see quot. eOE) is to be derived from a prefixed or an unprefixed verb, i.e. piperian or gepiperian (see pepper v.).
Sprinkled or seasoned with pepper. Also figurative in various senses: sprinkled with small dots like grains of pepper, pelted with shot, etc., †infected with venereal disease (cf. pepper v. 5b) (obsolete).
