Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek πεντετηρικός occurring every fifth year (counting inclusively) < ancient Greek πεντετηρίς festival celebrated every fifth year ( < πεντέτης of five years < πέντε five (see penta- comb. form) + ἔτος year: see etesian adj.) + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare earlier trieteric adj., and octaeteric adj. at octaeteris n. Derivatives, enneaeteric adj.
