单词 even down
释义

even downadv.adj.n.

Brit. /ˈiːvn daʊn/, U.S. /ˈivən ˌdaʊn/, Scottish English /ˈivn dʌʊn/, Irish English /ˈiːv(ə)n daʊn/
Forms: see even adv. and prep. and down adv.
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: even adv., down adv.
Etymology: < even adv. (compare even adv. 1) + down adv.Earlier currency (in sense A. 1) is perhaps shown by the following:c1400 (?c1390) Sir Gawain & Green Knight (1940) l. 1345 So ryde þay of by resoun bi þe rygge boneȝ, euenden [perhaps read euendoun] to þe haunche. However, an alternative explanation of the manuscript reading as showing a past plural form of even v.1 has been proposed (see O. F. Emerson in Jrnl. Eng. & Germanic Philol. (1922) 21 386).
Chiefly Scottish, English regional (northern), and (in later use) Irish English (northern).
