Origin: Apparently formed within English, by derivation. Etymon: peck v.1
Etymology: Apparently an extended form of peck v.1 with a frequentative ending -et, perhaps after French verbs in -eter (especially becqueter to peck at (1223 in Old French as participle biquetant ) < becquer (see beak v.) + -eter , verbal suffix), or perhaps after French picoter (see picotee n.).
Obsolete.
transitive and intransitive. To peck repeatedly; to continue pecking.
