Etymology: < classical Latin paulō post a little after ( < paulō by a little, use as adverb of ablative of paulus (also paullus ) little, small ( < the same Indo-European base as paucus few: see pauci- comb. form) + post after: see post- prefix) + future adj., after post-classical Latin paulo post futurum the future after a little (6th cent.), itself after Hellenistic Greek ὁ μετ' ὀλίγον μέλλων. With the noun compare French paulo-post-futur (1752 in Trévoux, citing earlier examples; now rare).In 19th-cent. grammars also called ‘third future’, ‘futurum exactum’, ‘futurum perfectum’, ‘future perfect’.
