单词 parasceve
释义

Parasceven.

Brit. /ˈparəsiːv/, U.S. /ˈpɛrəˌsiv/
Forms: Old English late Middle English–1600s Parasceue, 1600s 1900s– Parasceve, 1600s–1700s Parascue.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin parasceue.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin parasceue, parasceve day of preparation, day before the Sabbath, especially with reference to the original Good Friday (Vetus Latina, Vulgate, e.g. Mark 15:42), Good Friday in the liturgical calendar (6th cent.), preparation (16th cent.) < ancient Greek παρασκευή preparation, in Hellenistic Greek the ‘day of preparation’ (Septuagint) < παρα- para- prefix1 + σκευή equipment, outfit, attire < σκεῦος vessel, implement (see skeuomorph n.). Compare Gothic paraskaiwe, a direct borrowing from Greek. Compare Old French, Middle French, French †parasceve, French parascève preparation for the Sabbath (end of the 13th cent. as parasceve in sense ‘eve of the Sabbath’), Good Friday (from 17th cent.; now archaic). With Parasceve day compare post-classical Latin dies parasceves (Vetus Latina, Vulgate: Luke 23:54; frequently from c1200 in British sources), Hellenistic Greek ἡμέρα παρασκευής (New Testament); also post-classical Latin dies parasceve (5th cent.; from late 12th cent. in British sources). With Parasceve of the Pasch compare post-classical Latin parasceve paschae (5th cent.). Apparently unattested between the Old English period and the 15th cent., although post-classical Latin parasceve continues to be attested in British sources, e.g.:1391 in L. T. Smith Exped. Prussia & Holy Land Earl Derby (1894) 117 In die parasseue.1416–19 in H. E. Salter Churchwardens' Accts. St. Michael's Oxf. (1933) 12 Item, recept' de collectis in festis Parascheues, Pasche, et Natalis domini.
