Etymology: < parrot n.1 + bill n.2 In α. forms < the genitive of parrot n.1 + bill n.2 In sense 3 after Maori ngutukaka ( < ngutu beak, bill + kaka parrot): compare parrotbeak n. 1.
1. A tool or implement that resembles or is likened to a parrot's bill; spec. (a) a kind of surgical forceps (obsolete); (b) a war hammer with a point like a parrot's beak (historical rare); (c) a pair of secateurs, shears, etc., whose blades resemble a parrot's beak. Frequently attributive. Cf. parrotbeak n. 3.Sense 1(b) is apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
