Etymology: < French outarde (1613 in this sense in Canadian French; early 14th cent. in Middle French in sense ‘bustard’) < classical Latin avis tarda (see bustard n.).
Canadian and U.S. regional (now rare).
The Canada goose, Branta canadensis.
